Wollstonecraft History

Wollstonecraft is located about 4 kilometres north of Sydney central business district. The suburb was named after an early settler, Edward Wollstonecraft who owned large tracts of land in the area. Wollstonecraft is surrounded on three sides by natural bushland on its harbourside shoreline. Smoothey Park, a bushland reserve is at the exit of the Wollstonecraft train station.


Wollstonecraft has a population of about 8,012 of which 54% were born in Australia. The residents are mainly of ethnic backgrounds from England, China, New Zealand, Hong Kong and India. The median age of the population is 35 years against the national average 37 years. White collar jobs such as professionals, managers and clerks are the main occupation of the residents.


The Wollstonecraft railway station links the suburb to other parts of the country on the Sydney Trains network. Regular bus services run to the city and surrounding suburbs. Due to its proximity to the city, car is a popular mode of transport.
