General information of Werrington

Located just under 50 kilometres lies the suburb of Werrington. It is governed by the City of Penrith in the Greater Western Sydney region. The suburb known today as Werrington was once inhabited by the Gomerrigal-Tongarra people of the Native Australians.


In 2011, Werrington had a population of just under 4,000 but the numbers has seen steady increases throughout the years. The median age of its people is 32 years which is considerably below the Australian national median. The bulk of residents are Australian born with the remainder coming from places including England and parts of Asia. The majority of people are employed on a full time basis in clerical positions.


Werrington station, located along Railway Street offers services to Penrith as well as the city area. The Great Western Highway borders the suburb to the south and provides ease of access into a major highway, leading other western areas, Parramatta and into the city. Apart from the various bus stations situated within the suburb, the main bus route lies along the Great Western highway. These buses provide links to the surroundings as well as within the suburb.


Werrington is mainly a residential suburb with a variety of businesses spread out across the suburb and in no one particular place. The University of Western Sydney campus is located to the south. The main commercial hub for Werrington is considered to be St Marys village shopping centre and is located a short distance eastward.
