Waverton History

Waverton is located about 4 kilometres north of Sydney central business district. The suburb extends from Balls Head north to the Pacific Highway giving it an extensive waterfront areas in Berrys Bay and around Balls Head.
The suburb was named in 1929 after the Waverton Estate. The whole of Waverton used to be part of the land belonging to the Wollstonecraft suburb. In 1940s, Waverton’s waterfront was one of the most important boatbuilding site in the harbour and also a place for recreational boating.


Waverton has a population of about 2,807 of which 58% were born in Australia. Mostly, the residents are of English, Australian, Irish, Chinese and Scottish descent. People working in white collar jobs such as professionals form 48% of the working adults, managers make up about 20% and clerical positions constituted 14%.
