General Information

Situated within the Upper North Shore region of Sydney is the suburban area of Wahroonga. It is positioned not too far away off the heart of Sydney at a rough distance of 22km. The suburb’s name is an Aboriginal word that means our home. Shortly after the arrival of the Europeans, timber felling and farming were the primary industries in the area. Around the start of the 20th century, the construction of the railway line brought about further urban expansions and the suburb continued to develop throughout the years.

Demographics

More than 16,000 people currently reside in Wahroonga which makes it one of the bigger suburbs of the North. The most common descents of residents are English, Australian, Irish, Scottish and Chinese. Professionals account for the majority of the jobs held by residents which is followed by people in managerial positions and clerical workers.

Transport

The suburb is also easily accessible by car, with the Pacific Highway and Pacific Motorway both within the suburb. Wahroonga railway station is on the North Shore, Northern & Western line of the rail network in Sydney. There are bus services running at regular intervals to Hornsby, Turramurra, Macquarie Park and Sydney.

Commercial area

The main commercial precinct is located close to the railway station. An IGA supermarket, newsagency, pharmacy, cafes, restaurants and various specialty stores serve the local community. There is also Westfield Hornsby located in adjacent suburb Hornsby.

Separate housing account for about 80% of the dwellings in the suburb. Other popular types of housing includes units and apartments.
