The Rocks History

Inhabited by more than 19 aboriginal clans prior to European settlement in 1788, The Rocks has rich historical background. Located about 1 km from Sydney city centre on the southern shore of Sydney Harbour, the suburb is today an urban and historic precinct popular with tourists.
The Rocks had many of its historic buildings demolished in the 1900s when the Sydney Harbour Bridge was built and the areas around the suburb and Darling Harbour were developed. The proximity to Circular Quay and the amazing view to Harbour Bridge makes the suburb very popular.
