General Information

At just a little over 20km off Sydney’s centre is the Sydney suburb of Padstow. The suburb was named after Padstow in England. Formerly known as Padstow Park, it was changed to simply Padstow in 1939. The area was previously used for farming and obtaining timber, and slowly changed into a residential and commercial suburb as more developments took place.

Demographics

Padstow is considered as one of Sydney’s bigger suburbs with it being home to more than 12,000 people. Most of the residents in Padstow are of Australian, English, Chinese, Irish and Greek descent. Professionals, clerical staff, technicians and managers are the most popular occupations.

Transport

Padstow station is on the Airport, Inner West & South line of the Sydney Trains rail network. Bus services are also available to East Hills, Parramatta and Bankstown.
The suburb is also easily accessible by car, with the major routes including the M5 motorway, Henry Lawson Drive and Davies Road.

Commercial area

The main commercial centre in Padstow is located close to the train station. The southern side of the station features Woolworths, post office, and a wide selection of eateries. The northern side has a bowling club, aquatic centre, library and a number of churches.

Housing

Around 70% of dwellings in Padstow are separate houses, with the remainder consisting of units, apartments and townhouses.
