General Information

The suburb of Miranda is situated in the heart of the Sutherland Shire, estimating about 25 kilometres from Sydney’s centre.
It is a vibrant suburb with a mix of both residential and commercial areas. The name of the suburb was believed to have originated from one of Shakespeare’s famous play ‘The Tempest’.

Demographics

Miranda is considered as one of Sydney’s bigger suburbs with a population of about 14,436. The median age of 38 years is identical to the median age of NSW. Many residents are of English, Australian, Irish, Scottish and Italian descent. People in the labour force work as professionals, clerical staff, technicians, managers and community workers.

Transport

Both trains and buses are easily accessible in Miranda. Miranda station is on the Eastern suburbs & Illawarra line of the rail network. Regular bus services to neighbouring and other suburbs include Sutherland, Hurstville, Rockdale, Cronulla and more.
The Kingsway is one of the major routes in and around Miranda, frequently used by motorists.

Commercial area

There is a major shopping centre, Westfield Miranda, which is located adjacent to the train station on Kingsway. In addition to David Jones and other majors, there is an abundance of specialty stores with a wide range of offerings. Many individual stores are clustered around the station, an area often frequented by shoppers.
