General Information

Located within the Macarthur region of NSW at an approximate distance of 48km off the centre of Sydney lies the suburb of Minto. The suburb was named after the ruler of India, Earl of Minto. Up until the mid-1900s, Minto was mainly a village with a few hundred inhabitants. Towards the late 1900s, Housing Commission developed a large portion of the suburb to provide affordable housing.

Demographics

Minto is a classified as a medium sized suburb of Sydney with a population of approximately 10,307, with a median age of 33 years. Most of the residents are of Australian, English, Bangladeshi, Indian and Irish backgrounds. The most popular jobs are clerical staff, machinery operators, technicians and labourers.

Transport

Minto station is on both the Cumberland line and Airport, inner west & south line of the Sydney rail network. There are also bus services to neighbouring suburbs.
The suburb is also easily accessible by car, with the Hume Motorway not too far away.

Commercial area

Minto Marketplace is a major shopping centre on Pembroke Road. Both Woolworths and Aldi supermarkets operate in the centre, along with over 60 specialty stores.
Most of commercial areas tend to congregate around the train station, especially retail stores.

Minto comprises a mixture of houses, townhouses and units. The most popular type of dwelling are houses, forming about 80%.
