General Information

Part of the Macarthur region in Sydney, Macquarie Fields is located 42 kilometres south-west of the CBD.
Landowner and surveyor James Meehan named the suburb after the Governor of NSW, Lachlan Macquarie. The expanse was previously used for farming, but over the years developments have contributed to a growth in the population.

Demographics

With a population of 13,170, Macquarie Fields is one of Sydney’s biggest choice suburbs. However, the median age is 33 years which is considerably lower than the national average. Many residents are of Australian, English, Indian, Scottish or Irish background. The most common professions include clerical staff, machinery operators, labourers, technicians and professionals.

Transport

The Macquarie Fields station is on the Cumberland Line and the Airport, inner west, south Line of the Sydney Trains railway network. Bus services are available to neighbouring Liverpool and Campbelltown.
The Hume Motorway is north-west of the suburb and a major thoroughfare.

Commercial area

Macquarie Fields has a shopping centre, Glenquarie Town Centre, situated on the corner of Harold St and Victoria Road. It provides many of the essentials to the local community and is popular with the many residents.

The majority of housing in Macquarie Fields are separate houses, with townhouses and units forming around 25% of the residential dwellings.
