General Information

Situated at an estimated distance of just under 30km away the city centre is the suburb of Loftus. The suburb was took its name after the governor of NSW in the late 19th century, Lord Augustus William Frederick Spencer Loftus.
The railway station was constructed in 1886, but moved to the present site in 1979.


2011 recorded Loftus to have a population of approximately 4,016 people, of which the average age was 39 years is similar to the median age of NSW.
The most common ancestral descents of residents are Australian, English, Irish, Scottish and Italian.
Professionals, clerical staff, technicians, managers and community workers are the most popular occupations for local Loftus residents.


Loftus is easily accessible by both public and private transport. The railway station is located on the Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra (T2) line of the rail network. In addition, regular bus services are available to nearby Sutherland and Miranda.
Many people in the region also use private vehicle for getting around, with the Princes Highway adjacent to the railway line.

Commercial area

A small group of shops is located directly opposite the railway station. The Sydney Tramway Museum is situated on the eastern side of the railway line.
