General information

Condell Park is a south-western Sydney suburb, located 22 kilometres from the central business district (CBD).
The suburb was named after the engineer Ousley Condell. Arriving in May 1829 on the Swiftsure barque, he was allocated four adjoining blocks of land that he called Condell Park. Black Charlie’s Hill was named after Aboriginal Charles Luzon, who used to reside in a corrugated iron home near South Yagoona.

Demographics

In the Census conducted in 2011, Condell Park had a population of 10,417 people. Of these, 30.6% were aged 19 years and under, 27.3% were aged 20-39 years, 24.3% were aged 40-59 years, with the remainder aged 60 years and over. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people made up 0.6% of the population.
The median age of people was 34 years, with the most common ancestries being Lebanese (20.8%), Australian (12.1%), Vietnamese (9.9%), English (9.3%), and Greek (5.6%).
The residents of the suburb are mainly employed as Professionals (16.9%), Technicians and Trades Workers (16.2%), Clerical and Administrative Workers (16.2%), Managers (10.8%), and Labourers (9.6%).

Transport

The primary means of transport for many residents is by car. Arterial road Hume Highway is located to the north, while the M5 motorway is located to the south connecting the suburb to metropolitan Sydney.
Public transport is also available, with bus stops along many roads in the suburb, including Eldridge Road and Marion Street.
The nearest train station is Bankstown station, which is situated on the T3 Bankstown Line on the Sydney Trains railway network.

Centres of Commerce

There is a shopping precinct with shops including restaurants/cafes, chemists, bank an IGA supermarket and other retail stores. Most of the shops are located on Simmat Avenue, with a number of other businesses scattered throughout the suburb.
