History of Colyton
Colyton is in the Greater Western region of Sydney, located about 43 kilometres west of the CBD. In 1819, 800 acres of land was granted to William Cox who was the son of a well-known builder. Since the hometown of his wife is Colyton in the UK, he decided to name the suburb by the same name.
Colyton has a population of about 7,993 the median age of which is 34 years. The residents in Colyton are mostly of Australian, English, Irish, Scottish and Maltese descent. Most of the people are employed as clerical staff, machinery operators, technicians and labourers.
The closest train stations from Colyton are the St Marys and Mt Druitt stations. Bus services are also available and goes to nearby commercial centres at St Marys and Mt Druitt.
Colyton is also conveniently located for road users, with the Great Western Highway located directly to the north, and the M4 Motorway to the south of the suburb.
