History of Canley Vale
Canley Vale was originally a woodland expanse and was formerly part of the Male Orphan School Estate. Canley Vale and Cabramatta were originally considered to be a singular community and was known as Cabravale in the 1920s. It was subsequently subdivided and became the suburbs Canley Vale and Cabramatta.
9296 residents were recorded in the suburb of Canley Vale in 2011, with a median age of 35 years. Many local residents are of Vietnamese, Chinese, English, Australian and Cambodian descent.
Hume Highway borders Canley Vale and is a major arterial road that leads into the city. Canley Vale train station lies towards the west of the suburb and has services to the city via Granville. There are also a number of bus stops positioned throughout the suburb that offers residents frequent services to the railway station and surrounding areas.
The suburb features various small retail and food outlets for the local community. Many local residents travel to neighbouring Cabramatta for their shopping needs due to the diverse range on offer.
The housing in Canley Vale are a mix of older and newer housing. Just over half of all dwellings in the suburb are separate houses, with semi-detached housing and units also common in the area.
