History of Canley Heights
Canley Heights is an estimated 31 kilometres south-west of the city of Sydney. The suburb got its name from its sister suburb, Canley Vale.
With a population of around 10,500, Canley Heights ranks as one of the medium to large suburbs of Sydney. The median age of 35 years is similar to the median age of Sydney. About 40% of residents are Australian born, with other residents originating from Vietnam, Cambodia, China and New Zealand.
Cumberland Highway passes directly through the suburb offering residents easy access into the city. The nearest railway station is at adjacent suburb Canley Vale. The suburb is well-served by buses with stops located on St John’s Road, Canley vale Road and Avoca Road. Buses travel both within the suburb and the surrounding areas.
The main commercial district of Canley Heights is located along Canley Vale Road close to the Cumberland Highway. There are many amenities for the local community ranging from numerous cafes and restaurants to retail stores, banks and other small businesses.
