History of Bundeena
The word “Bundeena” is an aboriginal word that means “noise like thunder” which is thought to be due to the sound of the waves crashing onto Horderns Beach. The suburb is located about 29 kilometres south of the city of Sydney.
With a population of only 1894, Bundeena is one of Sydney’s smallest suburbs. However, the median age of 46 years is higher than the median age of most suburbs in Sydney. Most of the local residents are of English, Australian, Irish, Scottish and German descent.
Bundeena residents have a number of options of transport. The primary mode of transportation for residents is by ferry. Regular ferry services run from Bundeena and Cronulla and return. The closest railway station is at Sutherland. Bus stations are located across the suburb and offers residents frequent services.
Apart from the myriad of small businesses that can be found around the suburb, the main commercial district is along Brighton Street and features a post office, newsagency, IGA supermarket and other small retailers.
The houses in Bundeena ranges from older to more modern styles. Houses in this area are more expensive due to its prime location in being in close proximity to the beach.
