History of Bonnyrigg
Bonnyrigg is a suburb of Sydney 36 kilometres west from the Sydney CBD. The suburb got its name after Bonnyrigg, Midlothian in Scotland.
In 2011, Bonnyrigg recorded a population of approximately 8000, with a median age of 34 years. The most common ancestral descents are Vietnamese, Chinese, Australian, English and Cambodian.
Elizabeth drive extends through the suburb and connects to the Hume Highway. The most convenient station is Cabramatta station, with regular services to the western suburbs, Bankstown line and the city via Granville station. Bonnyrigg is also serviced by a number of buses to Cabramatta and other nearby stations.
Bonnyrigg Plaza, situated along Bonnyrigg Avenue is considered the main commercial hub of the suburb. The area also has other community facilities including a library and a PCYC. There is also a Bunnings warehouse located just across the shopping centre.
