History of Bonnet Bay
Bonnet Bay is part of the Sutherland Shire region, located about 29 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. The name ‘bonnet’ was inspired by a cave that was shaped like a bonnet found in the area. Due to its proximity the land surrounded by the bay also forms part of the suburb of Bonnet Bay. Almost all of the names of the streets in the suburb are named after the names of various American presidents.
The population of Bonnet Bay is about 2,133 and the median age is 43 years. The most common of the residents’ descent are Australian, English, Irish, Scottish and German. Most of the residents are employed as professionals, clerical workers, managers, technicians and retail staff.
Jannali station is the closest train station, which is only a short distance away. In addition, buses ply and stop along Washington Drive.
River Road and Bangor Bypass to the south of the suburb are the main thoroughfares for those travelling by car.
Bonnet Bay is primarily a residential area. Bonnet Bay Shopping Village is the main shopping area where a restaurant, supermarket and a selection of specialty stores serve the local community.
Bonnet Bay’s residential dwellings comprise entirely separate houses.
