History of Asquith

Asquith is a suburb located in northern Sydney, situated approximately 26 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. The suburb was named in 1915 after the Prime Minister of the UK, H.H Asquith. Wrigley’s chewing gum company commenced operations in 1961 in Asquith, and continues to trade to this day.


The population of Asquith is approximately 3,474, with the median age of the suburb being 39 years. The most common ethnic background of the residents include Australian, English, Irish, Chinese and Scottish. Most of the residents are employed as professionals, clerical staff, technicians, managers and community service personnel.


Asquith train station is part of the North Shore, Northern and Western line on the Sydney Trains network. Buses also provide services throughout the suburb.
For those travelling by car, the Pacific Highway and Pacific Motorways lead to Berowra/Mount Kuring-gai to the north and Hornsby/Wahroonga to the south.


There is a shopping strip along the Pacific Highway, with Westfield Hornsby shopping complex situated only a few minutes’ drive away.


Most of the dwellings in Asquith are separate houses, with a small number of townhouses and apartments.
